The importance of scientific advice in fisheries management
The fisheries sector is moving towards a sustainable future with the help of scientific research. Collaboration with science is the key to the new fisheries model.
Sustainable fisheries management is a joint effort of fishermen, scientists and public administrations. Without one or the other it would not be possible and the crucial role played by research is becoming increasingly clear.
It is with scientific research that the best decisions can be taken, such as adjusting catches after knowing the reality of some fish stocks. Research campaigns at sea are becoming more frequent because the importance of scientific advice in fisheries management has become evident.
We will also talk and debate about this three-way collaboration and the role of researchers in it at Meeting of the Seas.
