Sofia 2020 Report. State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture

Manuel Barange, a biologist and the UN’s highest authority on fisheries, will be in charge of opening the 2020 “Meeting of the Seas”

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Department of the FAO (the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization) publishes the State of the World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) report every two years. This report is awaited with great anticipation, as the 25,000 internet search hits it receives every month since its first edition in 1994 show. The 2020 SOFIA edition was released this June. In this talk, the head of the publication will outline the report’s main results, in particular key industry trends in terms of production, consumption, markets, livelihood and the state of resources and industry players will be made conscious of significant issues such as the importance of resource sustainability for future generations.
